The Hein Art Academy is a private Academy, dedicated to the study of painting and drawing in the classical tradition without excluding the insight and advancements of the modern art movement. It was created to be an institution that is strongly rooted in academic training while also encouraging artistic advancement through creative exploration. Its founder, internationally recognized painter Jeffrey Hein, first began taking students privately in 2002. The “Hein Art Academy” was established in its current form in January of 2007.

The structure of the academy is drawn from what Hein feels are the strengths of other art training institutions. Like the 19th century ateliers, each student is given a personal work area to which they have regular access. They are given assignments, such as still life, cast drawing (painting), and painting and drawing from live models, all designed to build technical skills, as well as assignments that will challenge them creatively.  The total enrollment is only 10 students. This is important because it allows the teacher to get deeply involved in each individual student’s education.

At $320 per month, the academy is extremely affordable in order to allow students to devote the maximum amount of time to building their education without going into debt, which will give each artist more financial freedom to take the necessary risks associated with the difficult field of a fine artist.
